Post-Production

Shot logs16/4/13
In today’s lesson we reviewed all the footage that we have filmed so far. After doing this each member of the production team had to decide on pieces of footage that they wanted to review and then write up about in a shot log. We had to complete a shot log for each scene or section of a scene that we had filmed and say if we were going to use it and if we wasn’t the reason for this.
During the lesson I had completed six shot logs on my own which included the shot which shows Jessica waking up. This shot log shows that we have shot this scene twice and the reason why we didn’t use the first shot that we had taken. The next scene that I had wrote about in my second shot log was when Jessica was talking to Charlie Cooper before school. In this shot log I had again shown that we had filmed the scene twice and the reason why we did not use the first scene. The third shot log that I had completed was when Jessica was talking to Charlie Cooper on Facebook and her mum (Sarah) comes up to tell her to get ready for school. We also filmed this scene twice and I explained the reason why we didn’t use the first shot we had taken. The fourth shot log I had completed was of the scene where Jessica gets home from school and talks to Charlie Cooper on Facebook. We had filmed this scene three times and again I had stated the reason for why we didn’t use the first two shots, and the reason for why we are using the third shot in our crime drama instead. The fifth shot log I had completed was about the scene where Jessica goes into the kitchen to wait for her dinner. We had shot this scene twice and decided that we were going to use the second shot. I again explained the reason for why we were going to use the second shot and not the first. The final shot log that I had completed was the scene where Jessica is walking up the stairs after getting home from school. We decided that we were going to use the first shot instead of the second shot that we had filmed as we thought that it better quality. Therefore I explained my reason why we were going to use the first shot instead of the second. After doing this we had found out that we only need to re-film the school scene where Jessica and Danielle are having a conversation about Charlie Cooper. I think that we worked well together on this task as we had all decided on what footage we were going to use and what was the best quality. I believe that I worked well on completing the shot logs that I was given as I had included a lot of information on the reasons why we were going to either use the shot or not in our final crime drama production, and also I had completed it all in the lesson.

Editing 17/04/13 In today’s lesson we began editing the footage on premiere that we are going to include in our final production. We started by putting all of the footage, that we had decided to use in our shot logs, in order onto the timeline. We then all participated in cutting down the clips that were either too long or had background noise in which wasn’t supposed to be there. We also put in a title on a black background saying ‘1 month earlier’. When editing the scenes together we tried to make them look continuous and flow well into each other. An example of this is when Jessica walks through the front door and then goes into the living room. I believe that we have edited these shots together well as the scenes flow continuously into each other.  In this lesson we had put together and completed most of the editing that we need to do to ensure that our final production looks professional, although we still need to film some scenes to complete our crime drama production. When we finish filming our production we will then be able to complete the post-production stage and make sure that our production is at a professional standard. I believe that our group worked effectively together on this task as we all contributed by editing sections of the footage. Also we all contributed by saying which bit needs to be cut and where it will placed on the timeline. To improve I believe that we should have filmed everything that was needed to be filmed first before editing so we knew how long the production was and if we needed to cut anything down more than we already have.

Editing 18/4/13
In today’s lesson we finished off editing the footage that we have already put onto premiere. We cut down some scenes which still had unwanted background noise. An example of this is when we cut down the scene which shows Sarah holding a picture of Jessica when she was younger crying. When re-watching this scene we had noticed that there was somebody talking in the background which we did not want so we cut down the shot. Also we cut down some scenes which were too long as our opening sequence is allowed to be 5 minutes, and when including the opening titles and the scene we still have to film it will be longer then the allowed time. Also during the lesson we looked on YouTube to see if we could find any suitable audio that we could use for our opening titles. After searching for piano covers we came across a couple of options that we liked. I then went on to email the person who had covered the song to ask him if we were able to use his cover in our media production. He has not yet replied so we will continue to look for audio until he replies in case he doesn't allow us to use it, or if he doesn't reply. I believe that our group worked well on the tasks that we have set ourselves to complete during the lesson. This is because we have completed both tasks effectively and we managed to find audio that was suitable, and then email the person to ask for his permission. We also all participated in the tasks by either searching for the audio, editing pieces of the footage or emailing the person whose music we want to use. Although to improve the tasks that we have completed today I believe that we could of looked for more audio options and then emailed the person covering those tracks so that if one person doesn't give us permission we would always have another option.

Editing 22/4/13In today’s lesson we began reviewing the footage we had just filmed, and decided on what shots we were going to include in our crime drama production. After picking these shots we then put them onto our project timeline with the rest of the footage that we had filmed. We then began editing this piece of footage by cutting down sections which included unwanted background noise. For example at the beginning of the school scene the person who was controlling the camera accidently zoomed in instead of zooming out. This then made the piece of footage look unprofessional and therefore we cut this section out at the beginning. We then cut other pieces of footage which were too long to be included in our crime drama production as it was only allowed to be 5 minutes, and we placed everything into the right place on the project timeline. After today’s lesson we only need to edit a few more pieces of footage so that each scene flows together effectively, and also we need to create and include the opening title. These titles will state the actor’s names, the names of the production crew and what roles they took on in the group and also when we do find audio to use we will be including the artist’s name. I contributed to the tasks we set ourselves to finish today by helping to pick out which shot we were going to include in our final production and also I helped to edit these scenes so that each shot continued on from each other effectively. I believe that our production group worked well on completing these tasks as we finished everything we set ourselves to do quickly and also we all contributed in some way to each task we set.

Editing 24/4/13In today’s lesson me and Tayler continued to edit our crime drama production. We started by cutting down some scenes which we thought were too long, and then added in titles for the opening credits. We took scenes that we had already filmed and cut them down. We then added in titles over the top which states the actors name and who they are playing in our production. We also added titles which said ‘The Hidden Identity’, and then put black shots in between to make it seem as though the title was flashing and coming closer to the screen. After finishing the majority of the editing that we needed to do, we then searched for copyright free websites so that we were able to find audio to include in our production. After finding a website we managed to find music that we thought was suitable for our crime drama, and would fit in well with the storyline, this piece of music was called ‘The great unknown’. We weren’t able to download the audio onto the schools computers so we are waiting until we are given permission to download the audio onto the school computers. After completing the majority of the editing today all we have to do now is add in audio and transitions onto some of the scenes.  I believe that me and Tayler worked well together on the tasks that we set ourselves to complete today. This is because we finished the tasks quickly and up to a high standard. I contributed to this task by helping edit the scenes together, adding in the titles and finding copyright free audio. Although I believe that we could have found more audio options so that if we are not able to download the music onto the school computers we would have another option.

Audio Permission 24/4/13
After emailing the person whose music covers we wanted to use in our crime drama production he has got back to us, giving us permission to include his covers ‘Turning Tables’  by Adele and ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Beyonce in our production. Now that we have got his permission we can now go onto download the covers from YouTube and putting them into our production so that we can finishing editing it, and also so that it will be at a professional standard. We chose these songs because we believe that they go well with the storyline of our crime drama production and also they add emotion to the opening scene. I believe that we should have emailed more cover artists so that we had more than one option in case he didn’t reply to the email that I sent him, and also so that we didn’t have to leave it until this late to include audio into our production.

Editing 24/4/13

In today’s lesson we began editing the rest of our footage together so that it our production will be at a professional standard. We cut down scenes which we felt went on for too long. For example we cut down the computer scene which shows Jessica talking on Facebook to Charlie Cooper. This is because the scene went on for too long and therefore the audience may get bored of watching it. Also we added fade in and out transitions at the beginning and end of some scenes.  We done this on the title which says ‘1 month later’, we also added the fade in transition at the beginning of the production and also on the beginning of the establishing shots. We added in these transitions because it helped the scenes to look as though they flowed into each other, rather than jumping from one scene to another. After downloading the cover music that the artist allowed us to use from YouTube we inserted in underneath the opening titles of our production. After watching the production through we felt as though the music didn’t fit in as well with our production as we first thought it would. Therefore we may still use the piano covers during other scenes of our production, but we will be using another piece of music that we found called ‘The great unknown’ which we will have to download and then give credit to the artist during the opening titles. This is because we believe that this piece of music relates better to our storyline and also fits in better with our production. It also has a scarier feel to it which we wanted. I believe that our group worked well on the tasks that we set ourselves to finish today as we have completed the majority of the editing, and also we have found the music that we want to include in the opening titles. I contributed to today’s task by editing some of the scenes and adding transitions and also by downloading the audio off YouTube via YouTube Converter.

Editing 30/4/13
In today’s lesson we completed the editing of our crime drama. After downloading the audio from a copy-right free website we then put the audio onto the timeline where our opening titles begin and end. We had to keep adjusting the length of the audio so that it would be played at the same time as the opening titles. We then added another opening title which stated who had taken on the role as the editor, producer and director, which was taken on by me. When creating this title we wanted it to roll down so that it looked professional. It took us a while to do this as we had to slow down the titles so that people watching the production would be able to read them. By slowing the titles down we had to make the clip longer which we managed to do quickly and effectively. We also put in fade to black transitions at the end of the title and also at the end of the production. After finishing editing our crime drama we watched it back to see if there were any improvements that we needed to make, and had to say what we disliked about the opening sequence. I thought that some of the clips were not filmed to the best possible standard and therefore we might consider re-filming that shot again, as we want our crime drama to look as professional as possible. Although overall I am very pleased with the way our crime drama has turned out.  In today’s lesson we have also completed a questionnaire which we are going to ask our friends and family to complete about things such as the way in which we edited the scenes together and also if they understood the storyline and what was happening in our production. An example of a question that we had put into our questionnaire was ‘do you think the scenes flow effectively into each other?’ I contributed to today’s tasks by helping put in the audio and also completing the editing of our crime drama. I also helped to place the titles in the right place and make the pace of them slow down so that people watching our crime drama will be able to read them. I believe that our group work effectively on the tasks we set ourselves to complete today as we all contributed to each task and also we finished it quickly and to the best possible standard. To improve though I believe that we could have filmed some scenes more than once as when we came to finishing the editing some scenes didn’t look as professional as others.

1/5/13
In today’s lesson me and Tayler made changes to our questionnaire so that people filling it out would be able to understand it better and also give us more feedback on what we would need to improve. After doing this we then put our first draft of our opening sequence onto our blogs so that when people would be filling out the questionnaire they would be able to watch our opening sequence first. Although first we had to export our crime drama production so that we were able to put it onto YouTube, this took about six minutes. After doing this I was then able to put our opening sequence onto my blog so that the people who will be filling out the questionnaire will be able to watch it. We also created a poll which people on the blog can vote on to say whether they think that our production is up to a professional standard, and if they believe that we need to change anything. After getting feedback from these sources we will then be able to make the changes needed to make our opening sequence the best it could possibly be. I contributed to the tasks we set ourselves to complete today by helping Tayler think about how we could evaluate our questions so that we would be able to get more detailed feedback. I believe that I worked quickly and effectively on the tasks I set myself to complete today as I have uploaded my first draft onto my blog, and also helped to finish writing and changing the questionnaire.

Meeting 2/5/13In today’s lesson our production group had a meeting about what scenes we were going to re-film. We came to this decision after getting feedback from the questionnaire we gave out and also from the discussion we had in our production group. We have decided to re-film the scene where ‘Jessica’ and ‘Danielle’ are having a conversation as you can’t hear what they are saying clearly. Also we have decided to film the majority of the scenes which are set in ‘Jessica’s’ house are going to be re-filmed as in the scenes some of the movement doesn’t flow smoothly, and also some of the scenes when Jessica is on her laptop the camera movement is shaky.  As a group we have decided when we are going to film these scenes and also what scenes we are going to re-film. We have also decided that we are going to film every scene three times, and do it from different angles so that we will have plenty of footage to use. When we have completed re-filming these scenes we will then edit them together so that our production looks professional. I contributed to this task by helping to decide what scenes we need to re-film and also deciding when to re-film these scenes. I think that we could improve by filming these scenes more than once when we had done it so that we would have more than one option to choose from. Also we should have re-filmed the scenes sooner so that we could ensure that we would finish on time.

Shot logs- 10/5/13
In today’s lesson Me and Tayler completed all of the shot logs for the new pieces of footage that we have recently filmed. By completing these shot logs we were able to see which shots we were going to use in our final production, and also the reasons why we chose to use these shots. For example for the scene where Sarah comes into the room and tells Jessica to get off her laptop and get ready for school we had filmed this scene three times. In the shot logs we stated the reasons why we didn’t use the other two shots, which was because there was background noise and also in one of them the camera angle caused the shot to look un-realistic. In the shot logs we also stated the location in which we shot the scenes, also the quality of the audio and the quality of the video which was on a scale from 1, being good, and 3 being poor. I contributed to this task by completing eight shot logs, and also helping other people to complete their shot logs by deciding which shots we should include in our final production. I believe that me and Tayler worked well together on this task as we both completed the shot logs quickly and to the best possible standard. Although to improve I believe that we could have completed this task in the previous lesson so that we could move on to finishing editing our crime drama.

10/5/13
In today’s lesson we did some peer assessment with the rest of our class. Our production group went and looked at another group’s first draft of their crime drama, and other members of the class looked at ours. We then gave each other both positive and negative feedback so that we could improve our crime drama and ensure that it is at the best possible standard. Our feedback showed us that we made good use of camera angles and therefore you were able to see each scene from a different perspective.  Also they said that the acting our crime drama was brilliant, and this then made the storyline seem much more realistic. The final positive feedback that we were given was that the lighting throughout our crime drama was good, and set the mood for each scene. They also gave us some improvements to make which was that we should put transitions between each shot although we shouldn’t overdo it which we had done in our first draft of our crime drama. After getting both positive and negative feedback for our production we now know what improvements we should make, to include more transitions, which will ensure that our crime drama looks as professional as possible and is up to a high standard.

10/5/13

Also in today’s lesson me and Tayler began editing our second draft for our crime drama opening sequence ‘Hidden Identity’. After getting feedback from the questionnaires and also from having a meeting as a group we had decided to re-film some of the scenes. After doing this we then had to take out the old footage and put in the new footage that we have recently recorded. An example of this is the school scene where Jessica and Danielle are having a conversation about Charlie Cooper. When we first filmed this scene it was difficult to hear what the actors were saying. Therefore we filmed the scene again but this time used a microphone and placed it underneath the actor’s mouth so that we could hear what they were saying clearly. Also we shot this scene from a different angle and position so that the camera was closer and you could hear what was being said. This then looked and sounded more professional when placing it into our crime drama. Another shot which we filmed again was the establishing school of Queensbury Academy. The first time we shot this scene it was very windy so the audio was really bad. We then shot it again when it wasn’t as windy and this caused the audio to be better and you weren’t able to hear any background noise. We then put this into the timeline on the editing software ‘Premiere’, and this caused our crime drama to look more professional. We also wanted to add a scene in at dinner where you see Jessica’s reaction when her mother talks about girls talking to strangers online.  We wanted to do this to emphasis the fact that she is lying, and is talking to someone online and by showing a close up of Jessica’s face it shows her reaction about the conversation. In order to do this we had to re-film the dinner scene as the mise-en-scene would have been different for example the kitchen would look different and clothes that the actors are wearing would also be different. We also had to re-film the rest of the scenes which are set in Jessica’s house as the actors were wearing different clothes and the mise-en-scene would look different and the scenes wouldn’t look continuous. We managed to edit the first few scenes of our crime drama and put them onto the timeline, but we weren’t able to finish editing all of the scenes and we hope to finish our second draft during the next lesson that we have. I contributed to this task by editing and placing the new shots onto the timeline on the editing software ‘premiere’. An example of this was helping to fit in and cutting shots to make it fit in with the 180 degree rule. This was used when Jessica and Danielle were having a conversation about Charlie Cooper at school. I also contributed to this task by helping to make decisions about the editing and where we were going to put each scene on the timeline. I believe that both me and Tayler worked well together on this task as we were editing for the whole lesson and managed to get quite a lot done in the time that we had. We also both worked equally on this editing task and put the same amount of effort in. Although I believe that we could have improved on this task by finishing the editing in that lesson, however we had to finish our shot logs before we could begin editing and putting in the new scenes that we had filmed, and we also had to peer assess each other’s work.

15/5/13
In today’s lesson we completed editing the second draft of our crime drama ‘The hidden identity’. In the lesson before we had managed to edit the majority of our crime drama and we only had to insert a few more scenes onto the timeline in the editing software ‘premiere’, and then edit them together so that they looked continuous. We replaced the scenes where Jessica was typing on her laptop to Charlie Cooper after coming upstairs from dinner with the new ones that we had recently filmed. The old scenes were shaky and made our opening sequence look unprofessional. We therefore re-filmed these scenes so that they were less shaky buy using the tri-pod to film them. We also placed in some close up shots of the food being cooked at dinner and also Jessica’s facial expression when her mother is talking to her about talking to strangers online. We used these close up shots to show the audience what was going on in the scene, but also we used the close up shot of Jessica so that the audience were able to see her facial expressions about the conversation which is taking place. Also during the scenes where Jessica is typing on her laptop we took a close up shot of the screen so that the audience are able to see what is being said during the conversation. We then finished our opening sequence by uploading a shot of both Jessica and Paul (Charlie Coopers) hands typing on the laptop. This then allows the audience to see that Charlie Cooper is actually not a young boy and that the person who Jessica is talking to is actually an old man. After finishing editing all of the scenes together we then wanted to put in titles at the end which showed you the name of each actor and what role they place, and also the name of our opening sequence and the roles we played in the production team. As we wanted the titles saying ‘Hidden Identity’ to look as though they were coming towards the screen we inserted short black shots between each of the titles, and then made three different titles with the same text ‘Hidden Identity’ on it but making it bigger each time. By doing this the titles will look as though they are coming out into the audience. We also made the titles which said what role we played as part of the production team roll down the screen. We did this by creating the titles and then by using a button on premiere which allowed us to say how fast we wanted them to roll down and also where we wanted the titles to start and finish. This was quite difficult as we had never learnt to do this before, but we managed to do it and it made our opening sequence look more professional. After editing our second draft of our crime drama everybody in the production group and also a member of staff agreed that our second draft was a lot better than our first draft, although there are still improvements that we could make considering the editing to make it look more professional. These are things such as having some shots fade into the next shot so that it looks continuous and also having the audio fade out so that the background noise doesn't suddenly change from each scene. Also some of the shots are still shaky and we would be able to make the scenes more still by using a tool on premiere which we will be doing next lesson. I contributed to today’s tasks by helping edit the scenes together and create the opening titles. I also created the titles which said ‘Hidden Identity, and made them seem as though they were coming out of the screen. I believe that our group worked well together on the tasks we set ourselves today as we managed to complete the editing of our second draft to a professional standard, although we could have made some chances such as make the shots fade into each other so that it will look continuous throughout, and would be at a more professional standard.

16/5/13
In today’s lesson we began making changes to the second draft of our crime drama opening sequence. There were only a few improvements that we needed to make and one of these was adding music to the beginning of our crime drama. We decided to use a piano cover of the song ‘turning tables’ by Adele. To use this piece of music we had to email the artist who created the song cover and ask for his permission, which he gave us. We used this song as we believed that the song reflected the mood of the scene. Another improvement we had to make to the second draft of our crime drama was to add more fade transitions to show that it was a different day, or time to the day. We added in a fade transition after the scene where Jessica was getting ready for school and it then went onto the establishing shot of the school. We did this to show that it had moved on to a different time in the day. Although after adding this transition in and looking back at it we had decided that instead of the scenes fading into each other, it would look better if the scene where Jessica was getting ready for school included the transition ‘fade to black’ so that the audience would be able to tell that it had moved onto a different location, and also a different time of day. Another thing we had to improve was how loud the sound was in some of the shots. In some scenes the sound was very loud and we wanted it to be a bit quieter. To change this we had to adjust the audio levels on some scenes which made them quieter. Also on some scenes the audio was different from one shot to another. An example of this was the scene where Jessica and Danielle were having a conversation at school about Charlie Cooper. In this scene we decided to use the 180 degree rule, and by doing this in one shot the wind in the background is louder compared to the other one. To change this so that the sound levels were the same in both we had to add the transitions ‘constant gain’ and ‘constant power’ which made the sound levels flow continuous into each other, and also it made sure that the sound levels were the same throughout. The final change that we made in this lesson to our second draft was the lighting in the last scene where you are able to see Paul’s (Charlie Cooper) hands typing on the laptop. In this scene we wanted to make the lighting in the room darker so that it would reflect the mood of the scene and also the character. To do this we had to change the brightness of the scene and made it darker, and also we used a zooming effect which starts zoomed into Paul’s hands and then zooms out to show him typing on the computer. I believe that our group worked well on the tasks we set ourselves to complete today as we completed them quickly and to the best possible standard. We also all contributed to this task in some way, by either editing a scene or saying which scene should be changed. I contributed to this task by helping to edit some scenes such as adding the ‘constant gain’ and ‘constant power’ transitions to each shot so that the audio would flow continuously throughout our opening sequence. I also helped to make decisions on which scenes should be improved and edited.  There is still some scenes which need to be improved to ensure that our crime drama is at the best possible standard, and these things will be done next lesson.

20/5/13
In today’s lesson I made the rest of the improvements that needed to be made to the second draft of our opening sequence so that it would be at the highest possible standard. The first improvement I made was changing the ‘cross fade’ transitions which cause the scenes to fade into each other and replaced them with fade to black transitions. This was because by using the fade to black transition instead of the cross fade transition it shows that time has passed since the scene which was before it. I used this transition when Jessica was walking through the door after coming home from school. This was because the shot before showed Jessica at school and therefore time has passed from that scene to the scene where she was walking through the door. Another place where I had used this transitions was after the title shot where it said ‘1 month earlier’. This again was used to show that time had passed from that shot as it then went straight onto the establishing shot of Jessica’s house. The final place where I replaced the cross fade transition with the fade to black transition was when Jessica was getting ready for school and then the next shot went onto show an establishing shot of Queensbury Academy. The fade to black shot was again used to show that it was a different time in the day. The other improvements that I made in this lesson were cutting down some shots which I believed were too long. These were mainly the shots of Jessica typing on the computer. I cut these down because if they went on for too long they may begin to bore the audience and therefore they will not be interested in watching the rest of our opening sequence. During the conversation between Jessica and her friend Danielle the audio sometimes overlapped or repeated itself. Therefore I had to cut the end of some of the shots or make the ‘constant gain’ transition shorter so that the audio wouldn't repeat itself. I also added audio to the shot were Paul (Charlie Cooper) was typing on his laptop so that it made the scene seem more mysterious and creepy. I also added the cover artist’s name who gave us permission to use his cover of ‘turning tables’ by Adele to the rolling titles at the end of our opening sequence. I believe that I worked well on the tasks I set myself to complete today as I completed them all quickly and to the best possible standard. Although after watching the opening sequence back I believe that there are still some changes which need to be made. These are things such as using the editing tool to stop the camera shaking in some parts of our opening sequence, and also the audio that I put in over the scene where Paul (Charlie Cooper) is typing needs to be adjusted so that it fits over the whole scene.

22/05/13
In today’s lesson I finished editing our improved second draft of our opening sequence ‘Hidden Identity’. Before editing I reviewed all the scenes which we had already put together and edited, and then cut down some shots or adjusted them so that they looked professional. After doing this I then attempted to stabilise some of the scenes which are shaky by using the ‘warp stabilizer’ tool on premiere. After attempting to use the warp stabilizer tool on the shots it wouldn’t allow me to do it as I had to adjust the size of the shot. Therefore I opened the new project on premiere and then important the footage which needed to be stabilised. After doing this I then put the ‘warp stabilizer’ tool onto the shots which worked this time, and after doing this to all of the shots I then exported them, and re-imported them onto the project which had the rest of the footage on it. I then had to delete the old shots which were shaky, and replace them with the new shots which were not as shaky and this therefore made them look more professional. After doing this I then watched by our opening sequence and again cut down and adjusted some scenes so that the editing was done to the highest possible standard. Also when watching it back I replaced some transitions such as the ‘cross fade’ transition with the ‘fade to black’ transition. I did this where Jessica was coming back into her bedroom after dinner as it shows the audience that time has passed since the dinner scene. I believe that I worked well on the tasks I set myself today as I managed to finish all of the editing of our opening sequence quickly and also to a professional standard. In today’s lesson I had also exported our opening sequence and uploaded it onto my blog so that people were able to view it and tell us there opinion on it, and if they believe that there is anything that we could change. I believe that our group had worked well whilst editing our crime drama and re-filming the scenes to create our second draft. This was because we all contributed in some way by either filming or helping to edit and the second draft that we had put together was at a higher standard and look more professional than our first draft. Overall I am happy with the way our second draft of our crime drama opening sequence came out as it had been edited together well and also both the audio and the shots flow continuously throughout. Also we have included many transitions such as ‘fade to black’, ‘warp stabilizer’ and the ‘constant gain and power’ which helped our opening sequence to flow continuously and also to make sure that it was at a professional standard.

24/5/13
In today’s lesson I reviewed my finished second draft of our opening sequence ‘Hidden Identity’. After looking over all of the footage and the way in which we had edited all together, I believe that we have done anything to the highest possible standard although there were still a few things which I believed could have looked better. As soon as the opening titles appear and the music begins it came in quite quickly. Therefore to make it look as though it would fade in, and the music wouldn’t come in, I put in two transitions at the beginning of the titles and at the end of the last scene. The first transition that I had inserted was the fade to black shot, which I had put at the end of the scene where you see Paul (Charlie Cooper) typing on his laptop to Jessica. I did this because the shot was able to fade out and the titles could then fade in so that our opening sequence looked continuous throughout. I also inserted the transition ‘exponential fade’. This transition allowed the music to fade in slowly so that it didn’t just start straight away. Another thing which I changed whilst reviewing our crime drama was that it some scenes the shots jumped from one to another. To change this I re-inserted the original piece of footage and then cut it in half and inserted another shot between them. This made the scenes again flow continuously into each other. After making all of these changes to our crime drama I believe that it is now up to a professional and high standard. Also I believe that by using the transitions that we did it has helped each scene flow continuously into each other, and therefore has caused our whole opening sequence to flow continuously throughout.
